The Power Of Slowing Down

Power of Slowing Down

It’s hard to imagine taking a road trip without mapping out the directions, enjoying the beautiful scenery and planning breaks and plenty of time to rest and recharge.

Yet, in life, we charge ahead and rarely take enough time to think or plan for our dreams and goals.

I know. I lived it.

For most of my life, I was rushing from one thing to the next.

The fear of missing out and falling behind kept me trying to knock things off an impossible to-do list.

Happiness was just out of reach. At the next destination and never were I was.

When I started my business, the same held true.

I felt I had to hustle at every conceivable moment or I would never be able to grow or run a successful business.

I set rushed deadlines that mattered to no one but me and felt if I didn’t reach them, all would be lost.

I scrambled to post on social media so the algorithm wouldn’t forget about me.

I launched one offer and then was already thinking about the next.

I neglected my mental health and physical well-being.

Sure I meditated and had downtime, but most of my day was endless, fruitless action.

Success is a State of Being not a Destination

I thought success would come from working around the clock, and desperately chasing opportunities before they escaped my grasp.

It took me a long time to realize, that we don’t wake up and one day find ourselves successful, we create our success with routines and containers for creativity and flow.

Success was not a place of doing, it was a place of being.

This is how I started dwelling there.

I created space.

I made sure to have mornings, afternoons and evenings free of plans for a few days to start.

During this time, I did whatever I felt called to do. At first, it was feverishly decluttering my home, then reorganizing and redecorating. Finally, I felt called to sit silently. Not in mediation but just being.

I went for walks without my phone and listen to the sounds of nature and the beauty of my surroundings.

I went to bed early learning that the deepest and most regenerative sleep occurs between 10 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Just as young children need a lot of sleep to support their growth and development, we adults need that too. When we are growing our minds and healing our wounds, our minds and bodies need time to process the changes.

Changing my Energy Frequency

Manifesting requires a new vibration, an energy shift.

If our bodies and mind are exhausted and depleted we can create the shifts we so desperately want to create. Everything remains just out of reach because our busy lives won’t allow anything new to enter when the outdated beliefs first need to be removed.

Through honouring our emotions, feeling them, determining their message for us and releasing them—we create space.

We need to have daily tune-ups and check-ins with the neglected part of ourselves before we even think about hitting the road and trying to reach our dream destination.

Quiet moments to think and process.

Yet, often, moments like these are fleeting at best.

It’s time to make them a priority.

I made the life-changing decision that before I do anything for anyone else, I take time for myself.

I now have a flexible morning routine that allows me to set up my day for success. I meditate, stretch, enjoy time in nature and practice deep breathing.

Before I felt I never had enough time, and now I focus on creating it.

"Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds that you plant."

Answers Lie Within

As a new entrepreneur, I thought the answer was out there and all I had to do was uncover it.

I devoured self-help books, listened to every podcast, signed up for masterclass after masterclass, took all the courses and still I was floundering.

My anxiety was at an all-time high, and I was burnt out, running only on fumes.

Finally, my body hit a hard stop.

I didn’t even want to lift a finger and do anything, even what I loved to do.

It’s then I realized that the future me, could not be created from an old set of blueprints.

It would require a different set altogether.

I needed to take everything I learned but pick and choose only the things that resonated.

I needed to listen to my quiet inner knowing that was guiding me all along.

I needed to find my flow and create with it, not against it.

I did all of that.

I took the time to heal my body with sleep, supplements, healthy food and water.

I healed my mind from turning off the negative influences vying for my energy—news, social media and reality TV.

I took breaks to breathe, stretch and journal instead of powering through my day.

I realized that the meetings, work and endless household tasks could wait, but my health and well-being could not.

Because the bright future that I’ve been working hard to create, requires my healthiest and most vibrant self.

Practicing Surrender

I thought if I took my eyes off the road for even a second, I would miss the destination. I would pass the sign that says, exit here and I’d be lost and hopeless.

I failed to realize that by loosening the grip and surrendering control, I would unleash infinite possibilities.

Shortcuts.

An easier journey.

Pit stops full of adventure.

Fresh air, sunshine and beautiful views.

Laughter, ease and joy.

I was working so hard to create the life of my dreams, I was missing the life right in front of me.

The answer to everything was when I get to where I want to be, then I’ll relax, learn how to play that song, write that book, take that break, go on that vacation.

Even when I took little breaks, I could never let myself fully relax. That meant letting go, and it was too much to even fathom.

When I finally was forced to stop, the universe opened up for me.

I started seeing the missing pieces of the puzzle.

I did the things that made me happy.

I saw the signs pointing me int he right direction.

My intuition strengthened.

The answers came.

The fear left.

I overhauled everything I’ve been made to believe and instead started believing in myself.
