The Key to Extraordinary Living Lies in Your Hands

The Key to Extraordinary Living Lies In Your Hands

We’ve been told how to live a good life, but not an extraordinary one.

To live safely, and comfortably and say no to risks.

To do well but not too well so as not to make others uncomfortable.

To speak your truth, but only in ways that don’t offend anyone.

To feel happiness and excitement but in a well-defined box. Saving this for occasions like weddings, buying a home or having a child.

Doing something truly extraordinary? Get ready to hear crickets from the people who labelled you one way and aren’t ready for you to be another.

The missing truth is that you’re meant to have an extraordinary life and everything you’ve been taught has been designed to keep you playing small.

This is how to move past conditioning to live your most incredible life.

"The most precious gift we can offer anyone is our attention. When mindfulness embraces those we love, they will bloom like flowers."

Remove Distractions

Mystics, monks and seers have been sharing the benefits of silence for centuries. They’ve always known what we’re now beginning to realize.

Now is the only moment we’ll ever have.

We can enjoy the life in front of us or distract ourselves from it with an endless barrage of news, information and ineffective action that isn’t getting us closer to where we want to be.

I used to be so obsessed with my to-do list that I couldn’t sit still for a second.

As a new entrepreneur, the tasks were endless. There was always something to write, post and share. I thought that if I slowed down, I would never reach the elusive success I was longing for.

I was so busy creating the life I wanted that I was missing the life right in front of me.

I distracted myself by mindlessly scrolling through social media and binge-watching the latest Netflix series in my free time.

I was missing the point that life is meant to be enjoyed in the here and now.

Despite what I was conditioned to believe, I didn’t need to wait until I reached my goals to be happy.

Happiness was right in front of me and available abundantly.

In small moments, like the smell of fresh flowers, spending time with my loved ones, reading an inspiring book and having time to do what I love.

Be obsessed with your well-being, your passions and the people around you to experience joy you never knew possible.

When you’re in love with life - it will love you back.

Inspiration will flow.

Solutions will come.

Doors will open.

"Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they're never weakness. "

Live Courageously

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Following your heart and living your truth means doing the things most people aren’t willing to do.

It’s putting in the time and energy for your own personal growth and development. It’s taking part in daily rituals that help you feel your best.

It’s doing what’s right for you even if it means upsetting others.

It’s speaking up for what you believe in even when it goes against common beliefs and attitudes.

When I started my business it meant taking a hard look at my life and taking out anything that wasn’t serving me.

That meant no more binging-watching TV, hanging out with toxic people and saying yes out of obligation.

That was the hardest part.

As a people-pleaser and overthinker, I had to go against everything I learned and risk losing those I had come to count on and often I did. But I was willing to lose conditional love instead of losing myself.

Instead, I found a new fulfilling way forward, my purpose and passion and incredible humans to share my journey with.

Find your courage, find yourself.

"Work consists of whatever a body is obliged to do. Play consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do."

Work Smart, Play Hard

Hustle, do more, be more is the mantra of entrepreneurship, but it’s holding us back more than we realize.

What is success if we’re too miserable and burnt out to enjoy it?

The new mantra of modern entrepreneurship should be: Work smart and then enjoy your beautiful life.

No one becomes an entrepreneur to work 24/7. We seek to be our own boss so we can do the work we love when we want to.

Sure, there will be times, running your own business will be exhausting and hectic.

This is not meant to be normal.

In fact, the more we balance work with play the more we allow ourselves to enjoy the work we do. We also create a powerful groundwork for new inspiration and ideas to flow.

I used to think that not working around the clock meant not achieving the results I was after.

My idea of relaxing was meditating here and there or taking a yoga class once in a while.

True play is time to do nothing.

It’s taking a moment to breathe, watch the rain fall outside your window, and savour that cup of coffee.

It’s taking time to do something you love like baking, painting or spending time in nature regularly.

It’s understanding that humans live in cycles. Action, followed by rest is how we were made to operate. Imagine if we didn’t sleep and spent all of our time working. Our bodies would fall apart. Work without resting and recharging is not the way forward.

Work, play and rest on repeat are.

"Surround yourself with people who reminds you more of your future than your past."

Surround Yourself With the Best of the Best

We live in an age of information abundance, yet often we feel like we have to figure it all out on our own.

I know I did.

I spent the first year of my business Googling strategies, signing up for every free masterclass, listening to podcasts and reading business books.

It was a year of spinning my wheels and making painstakingly slow progress.

It wasn’t until I ventured out and started connecting with people online and in-person that my business started to grow.

I met my first client.

I started two businesses - coaching and copywriting.

I started speaking and holding workshops.

The best part? I was able to learn, grow and connect with other inspiring women.

Ask yourself who not how.

Who is doing what you would love to do? Take their course, sign up for their mastermind or connect with them on social media.

Not only will you learn incredible things, but you’ll also accelerate your results and your personal growth.

Plus, you’ll have new connections that will help you be who you want to be.

Want to be a writer? Learn from the best in the business.

Want to be an entrepreneur? Join a local networking group.

Want to be a better human? Volunteer with an inspiring organization.

Whatever it is you want to do, there are people that have come before you who are ready to support you.

"Thoughts have power; thoughts are energy. And you can make your world or break it by your own thinking."

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Future

Everything you’re thinking, and speaking right now is creating your future reality.

Think of the last time you had a bad day.

One thing after another added up.

I remember when my youngest woke me up at 5 a.m. I was exhausted and fumbled through the day. It was one mishap to the next. Spilling coffee, being late, getting stuck in traffic and dealing with aggravating people.

Then I came home and complained to my partner, reliving it once again.

The negative feelings followed me throughout the day.

I couldn’t wait to crawl into bed and start over.

After years of reading self-help, I realized I didn’t have to wait until the day was over. I could change my experience in the moment.

I could stop complaining and fixating on everything going wrong.

I could take a deep breath when I was feeling overwhelmed.

I could choose how I wanted to feel.

Complaining and criticizing only brought more things to complain about.

When I changed my words, my life started to change.

I started to experience a lightness I never knew possible and more ease, gratitude and joy.

Was it easy? No.

Was it worth it? Yes.

My ego pulled out all of the stops to pull me back into my old unhelpful ways.

Instead of fighting it, I surrendered.

And decided to choose.

What would I say, think and do today?

What would I give my energy to?

Every intentional thought, word and action is taking me from ordinary to extraordinary.

Your turn.

Where do you want life to take you?
